Laura was a typical grunge rock girl, she was obsessed with the Seattle scene and wanted to move there as soon as she got out of high school. She had been accepted into Seattle University where she had already lined up a roommate and paid in advance her first semester’s tuition. Thomas was the heart throb bad boy of the high school, he was known mostly for looking a lot like Kurt Cobain and his singing style was a bit more like Chris Cornell. Of course he was in a band and he thought once he tagged along to Seattle with Laura that he would hit it big; life had other plans for the couple. May 25, 1991 – it was a day that would forever change the lives of one Thomas Bates and Laura Nelson. Laura and her boyfriend were at their prom, it was a magical evening with a theme of “Under the stars”, lame of course but by the 90’s standards it was awesome. There were streamers, balloons and a growing fetus ready to burst forth into the world. A girl dressed as if she were misplaced in a dress, went to the restroom while her boyfriend Thomas ducked out the back door to have himself a smoke. She had been experiencing stomach pains. Right there in the ladies restroom during her senior prom, Laura gave birth to a healthy baby girl whom was not expected. Scared out of her mind she called for help, she was whisked away to the hospital where she and her bouncing baby girl were checked over and given a clean bill of health.

Naming the little girl Cadyance Susanna Nelson – Cady and Nancy combined after her maternal and paternal grandmothers and Susanna after Susanna Hoffs from The Bangles, Laura held onto her daughter with much disdain. She was unhappy that she now had to make a difficult decision. Was she to keep the girl and raise her on her own or was she to give her up for adoption and live her own life. Thomas was happy to be a father and reveled in having a daddy’s girl, the apple of his eye. He asked Laura to put her plans on hold so they could do the right thing, get married and raise their little bundle of joy together. Laura contacted the university, whom refunded her tuition and the young budding family moved into a small apartment and lived off of the tuition money, Thomas’ part time wage and whatever he got from various gigs around town while Laura begrudgingly stayed at home with little Cady. She had little to no maternal instinct but was so in love with Thomas that she did whatever she could to make him happy and if that meant raising her unwanted daughter, then that was what it had to be. The couple married in a courthouse wedding and had a reception at a local fast food joint that allowed for reservations for birthday parties and similar parties.

Trouble in paradise came much quicker than expected; Thomas and Laura were constantly fighting about everything from money to their sex life and everything in between. Thomas began having affairs with younger girls. Some of the girls were so young that they were still in middle school. And by the time little Cady’s second birthday rolled around Thomas walked out on the family that he had begged Laura to keep. As years rolled on Cady would get a sporadic birthday or Christmas present sent to her by her biological father, while her mother turned to stripping and hooking to pay the bills. She had no skills and no passion for anything other than trying to numb the pain of the only man she ever loved walking out on her. She eventually began to drink heavily and using crack and meth. Cady had been too young to know her mother any other way. She became very independent and head strong, she did what she could to take care of herself as well as her mother. When she was six she began going around to the neighbors homes and asked them for left over’s and hand me downs for her and her baby sisters. She would walk around in the middle of the night outside barefoot when her mothers new “boyfriends” would come over, she would eat sandwiches out of garbage cans in the park so she didn’t have to hear the things that were going on inside of her home.

When she hit the age of fourteen, Cady began working around town, baby sitting or dog walking to get money to support her. She hid any money that she had from her mother and saved up as much as she could so she could get the hell out of her mother’s place. She quickly learned that it was going to be damned near impossible for her to make it on her own so she sucked it up and lived her life the best she could until she could escape. A few years later, at the age of seventeen, Cady began stripping for a living. They didn’t ask her age, she didn’t tell them. She got out of her mother’s home and her new place became party central. She spent more time drunk or high than she did worrying about her mother. Little did she know that she was more like her mother than she thought? She became pregnant but unlike her mother she wasn’t sure of whom the father was. She knew she couldn’t take care of a child and live the life she was. Her grandmother, Nancy; took over custodial rights and allowed Cady visitation with her daughter. Cady eventually moved onto bachelor parties and private shows. She focused more on trying to become an artist, her art skills are quite divine. She loves to work with oil based paints, acrylic paints, clay, and charcoal drawing mediums. She has a website and sells various pieces on there while she tries to make a name for herself.

Cady has changed her ways in the past year and a half. She no longer works as a stripper. She is now a talent and event coordinator for Two Bucks, a bar and grille that hosts many wonderful events. She got married in the fall of 2015 to the love of her life Silas Dixon. The two of them live together and raise their blended household. She has now become the mother that her daughter Brittani had always deserved and the mother that she had always wanted. She and Brittani’s biological father Tim Lobertini co-parent together and have made it a peaceful transition. Brittani moved smoothly from being raised by Cadys grandmother to being raised by her mom, dad and step father Silas. Cady has accepted her husband’s son from a prior relationship as her own. Amazingly she gets along with Larkinn, Ethans mother as well as Tims other baby mamas Chastety Richards and Gina Laurenti-Feerick.
